Bulk Transportation Specialist

Role Description:

We are hiring a Bulk Transportation Specialist to own liquid bulk execution across tank truck, ISO tank, and related modes. This role sits at the center of operations: matching the right equipment and carrier to the product, keeping shipments compliant, and giving customers clear visibility from tender through delivery.

You will plan, book, track, and close liquid bulk shipments for assigned accounts. You will work daily with shippers, consignees, and a vetted carrier network to protect capacity, service, and margin. Success looks like on-time pickups and deliveries, clean documentation, tight exception handling, and relationships that make the next load easier than the last.

Responsibilities:

Plan and execute liquid bulk moves (chemicals, food-grade, oils, and related products) from order intake through delivery and billing.

Source and tender loads to qualified tank carriers; confirm equipment type, tank spec, last commodity, wash status, and pump/hose requirements before dispatch.

Manage appointments, loading/unloading windows, heating, insulation, pump-off, and split or multi-stop moves.

Track shipments in the TMS; proactively communicate ETAs, delays, detention, and accessorials to customers and internal teams.

Vet and maintain carrier relationships with attention to authority, insurance, CSA/safety performance, tank cleanliness records, and product compatibility.

Ensure compliance with DOT/FMCSA, hazmat (when applicable), food-grade, and customer-specific requirements, including SDS, COA, wash tickets, seals, and weight tickets.

Quote lanes, compare market vs. contract rates, and flag cost or capacity risks early.

Resolve exceptions in real time: rejected loads, equipment mismatches, wash failures, over/short/damage, and claims support.

Prepare operational and exception reports; support invoicing accuracy and freight audit follow-up.

Partner with sales and account management on new liquid bulk opportunities, dedicated programs, and continuous improvement of lanes and SOPs.

Qualifications:

2+ years in liquid bulk transportation, tank brokerage, 3PL operations, or carrier operations (tank truck strongly preferred).

Working knowledge of liquid bulk equipment and practices (DOT 406/407/412 or equivalent, ISO tanks, food-grade vs. chemical tanks, wash cycles, last-load rules).

Experience coordinating shipments in a TMS and communicating with shippers, receivers, and carriers by phone and email.

Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple live loads in a fast-paced environment.

Clear, professional communication and calm exception handling.

Understanding of basic compliance concepts (hazmat awareness, insurance/authority checks, documentation).
